Under federal law < 11 U.S.C. Section 525(b) > a private sector employer may not discriminate (refuse to hire, refuse to promote or fire) against someone who has declared bankruptcy. It is illegal. The problems is, it would be very hard to prove you were not hired for that reason. Bankruptcies will show up for 10 years by the way.
