If they file for bankruptcy wouldnt that just mean they’d have to restructure his deals with the unions and his loans. If they restructured salaries with the unions that would be the best thing and therefore help the auto companies out.

How is the Big Three American auto makers filing for bankruptcy a bad thing?

That is true. However on the downside the auto makers argue that this will caused decreased demand for their cars due to warranties no longer being enforceable. I think they do have a valid point. Also if they restructure deals, that could include deals with auto parts suppliers, which are not in much better shape than the Big 3 – only difference is tehy aren’t big enough for anyone to seem to care.

I don’t think it’s a bad thing at all.
If I ran my company in such an incompetent way I would have either gone bankrupt or went out of business years ago.
But you wouldn’t see me crying to the government to bail me out
(nor would they.)
We have a capitalist free market.
It is Darwinian in nature. The strong (in this case, cost efficient companies who make a good product at a competitive price) survive.
The weak either perish or evolve.
The American car companies are weak. They must evolve or die.
Taxpayers paying to keep them alive is like giving heroin to a drug addict… just dragging out their slow painful death at our expense.

Personally I think that they should be held accountable for their actions and file bankruptcy like the rest of us would have if we owned a business and it went under b/c of poor management or inability to read the "market demands".
I do NOT think that congress should bail them out, I think that would send the wrong message and just solidify in the minds of the American populous that the government could care less about the average American citizen who has finance problems, but let one of their large contributors go under and everyone comes to their aid.
Everyone thought that they were voting for "change", this isn’t change, they are still taking care of themselves, (congress and the president), and letting those of us affected by bad business deals by lay offs and the like, just go by the wayside.
No wonder our economy is in such a mess. All you have to do is send EITHER party a lot of money, screw your business up and then they will bail you out with the "average" American tax payers dollars, who now can’t afford their mortgage, to send their children to school, and are for the first time in their lives living paycheck to paycheck.
Well Done!
